it will probably work just fine...

you might want to have it rebalanced...  after you clean it.. and CAREFULLY trim the loose rubber off..

be sure to use that picture for special Xmas and birthday cards for that Friend..

you can also get one of those key tag picture holders... and put that picture in there...  so you remember to not loan your friend your car again...

It's a little hard to get perspective from the photo, but the cut looks pretty deep.  I'd have someone look at it.

But from what I see, it is deep enough to question the structural integrity of the tire.  The fact that the cut is open while the tire is under pressure seems to point to a very bad situation.  At the very least, the cut - from an engineering point of view - is a stress concentrator and the cut will grow.  What you don't want to have is a blowout at high speed - and it looks like this one is a candidate.

Could you please post a better photo? From what I can tell it looks pretty deep, I do not recommend driving on it.

ANY time you have significant damage to the sidewall of the tire, the tire should be replaced. Period.

I sell both new and used tires in my shop and would not even consider the tire shown in this picture to be safe and would not sell a tire in this condition to a customer.

Don't take chances with your tires. Your best bet is safety first.
