2007 Chevy Uplander, 146 000km (90683miles)

I have been experiencing erratic speedometer behavior mostly between 40 - 60 KM/H. Also, first gear would occasionaly bang in around 2000 - 3000 rpm. Through other forums I discovered that the VSS or OSS could be the problem. I removed the sensor and found a thick mixture of lubricant and metal powder on the sensor, I cleaned the sensor with brake cleaner and installed it. All problems are gone.

Question is, Where did this gray paste come from?
( It is like the paste that you find on the magnet on the bottom of the Tranny pan. )

Could this be a sign of pending Tranny problems?

Thanks for your input.

If you are getting that much contamination on the vss,
I would suggest a fluid change, and clean the pan magnet . The end of the VSS is a magnet,it will collect contamination. The paste you are referring to is metal fillings and clutch wear.
At 90 thousand miles I would say that this would be normal wear, for this trans.

JGate, thanks so much for your feedback. I will take your advise and change the fluid/ filter, and clean the magnet.
