I was test driving a 2002 V70 2.4T with 117k miles today. When I shifted from neutral to drive, after about a second or so, there would be a noticeable bump, as though the transmission slipped and then bumped into gear. The car, however, seemed to do well when I drove it, with no transmission slippage as it moved through the gears. What do you make of the bump when putting the car in drive?

You have an AW 55-50SN transmission. The filter is internal .You would need to remove the trans to replace it.It sounds like you've got whats called a delay in drive.Which usually means there are leaks in the hydraulic circuit for the forward clutch. This causes it to take an extra second or two to pressurize. It could be anywhere from the valve body to the accumulater to the clutch drum itself. The first thing to do is check main line pressure to see if that is within specs.

This problem does not mean it will imminently fail but there is at least the beginning of a problem.I would try doing a few full throttle take offs and see if you get any slip or chatter. If it doesnt then it should be ok for a while.
