Hello, I am a first time poster here, and I have a few questions about my car. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Like the title says, I own a 03 Impreza RS with 78,000 miles on it. I have been hearing a high pitched whine coming from the rear passenger wheel, now this noise does not start immediately, it usually only starts after about 15 minutes or so of driving or if I'm driving on the expressway for a few minutes. About 2 years ago I had a the wheel bearing replaced from that same wheel because it was making noise. The weird thing is that the noise goes away when you apply the brakes and comes back when you let off the brakes, also if you stop somewhere for a few minutes the noise generally will not start up again when I start driving. I was wondering if it was possibly the wheel bearing again, but I hoisted up the car earlier today to try to wiggle the wheel and it doesn't budge like it should if the bearing was going bad.
One other noise I recently noticed is there is a clicking coming from the front passenger side wheel. It does not click everytime I drive but it does most of the time. The clicking speeds up and slows down with acceleration. It seems like it could be a CV joint from doing some research but if anyone has any idea of what either of these problems could be I would definitely appreciate and help or advice. If this is something I could fix on my own I would definitely attempt to fix it to save money because I have done some of my own car maintenance in the past.

it sounds like you need to examine the front brake pads, backing plates... brake pad hardware... caliper support bushings..
when brakes squeak... they are usually indicating that they are worn down to the limit.. on the ends of some pads are little folded pieces of metal with finger that sticks out past the front of the pad... when the surface wears the little finger scrapes the rotor.. the noise will go away when you step on the brakes.. sometimes..
a full inspection.. of the brakes.. lift the calipers off.. pull the pads... check the various pieces of tin on the ends of the pads...
if you don't know about brakes... this is not a hard job.. but it has to be done right..
the clicking noise can be the brake pads bumping around if the little clips fell off... or did not get installed..
it could also be other things... like the wheel bearings failing.. the CV shaft coming loose... the cv shaft going bad.. but it would make more noise going round corners..
there are several impreza problem videos on you tube

there are a bunch of magazines on this site.. that spend a LOT of time on imprezas

Thank you for the reply. I don't think it could be my brakes going bad causing the whining noise from the rear wheel, because I replaced the pads myself just over a year ago, and I haven't driven the car that much this year so there is probably only 8,000 miles on these pads. Also this is not just a light whining noise it's more of a drown out the stereo loud whining noise. I took the rear passenger wheel off earlier today just to look at the pads and they do not appear to be worn down to the wear bar.
