I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, 2.4 5 spd auto. The EPA estimate and sticker say 22 MPG city and 32 MPG highway. I have had this car since Sept. 2009. My wife drives it and the current mileage is 4,440. I only get 20 mpg. city. That's with my wife driving (cautious driver) with city driving and short patkway trips, 8-15 miles. We've taken 2 600 + mile trips at 60-70 mph and got a maximum of 24 MPG. Since this is my first brand new car is this what I should expect? Is there a usual "break in" period?
When I took the car to the dealer for my second oil change, I questioned the service manager. He said that combined mileage should be 27 MPG. I told him that my combined mileage is 22 MPG. He then stated that road conditions, speed and tire pressure affect gas mileage and that they never had anyone mention any concerns about gas mileage with this vehicle. I reminded him that "his" Sonata tells me when the tire pressure is low and have had no indications. I have also checked the pressure myself with a digital gague and it was correct at 32 PSI. I would like to hear from anyone about this situation and if this might be normal. Thank You.
