Is there a vacuum hose that could go bad that possibly effects the A/C controls? The A/C outside/inside air control recently started acting up. I used to be able to block out the outside air, but now it just partially works. You can really smell the outside car exhausts, etc. Also, if I set the control to floor only, the air blows out of the dash vents too. It just started happening recently.

yes... if the system is and most are vacuum controlled...

the problem is.. the ac vacuum is not usually listed on the emissions label..

it is found in the a/c heater section of the repair manual...

there are several differences you need to find out first..

is the car a US built version or a japan built version...

check the first digit of the vin number... a 1  will usually indicate a US built version..   i think a 4 or 7  may indicate a japanese built car..


there is also an automatic temp control... that has digital settings..    

and a mechanical version...   that uses knobs and levers..

there is a chance that a visit to the toyota dealers parts department you might get a parts drawing and hose drawing diagram  of the system .. if they are friendly...

i don't work on a lot of these.. but i do have a 99 to do in the next few days.. perhaps as late as tuesday...  so do check back.. i will look at that car see where the hoses enter the passenger compartment.   i am just doing a timing belt, tensioner and water pump when the car shows up...
