Heyy, this is my first post in this forum, nice to meet everyone.

I just got a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x2 with the straight 6 engine and auto transmission.

Since I bought the jeep, it's been running close to perfect. Last night I drove around, got in an out several times and everything was fine. I decided to run and grab a bite to eat, so I got in, and as I was driving, I realized the inside lights weren't shutting off... Thinking that a door may have been open, I stopped and opened and closed all of the doors securely, including the cargo door. The lights still didn't go off, so continued to drive and get my food and head back to the house and figure it out then.
I got home, and I shut the car off, and when I hit the door locks, the doors wouldn't lock. I turned the car back on, the windows will not roll up or down....

OK To sum it all up - the windows won't roll up or down, the lock buttons will not lock or unlock the doors, the interior lights stay on for about 10 to 15 minutes then shut off finally, my car alarm light is NOT blinking (the red light in front of the driver dash), when I put the key in the door and unlock it, the interior lights are not turning on (they normally do, but they aren't turning on until I OPEN the door) - And today the overhead display says DRIVER DOOR OPEN - which I made sure was closed securely...

Any pointers or advice? This is driving me nvts, and monday I'm supposed to get it insured and pay the tag/title/tax!

By the way, I did unhook the positive terminal to the battery in an attempt to reset the computer - which did not help.

with the drivers door open... see if you can find the switch that turns off the dome lights...  somewhere on a door jam.. usually with a rubber boot...

push it with your hand.. see if the light on the dash board goes out..

how are the door hinges..  are the doors sagging ???

the electrical systems can drive people nuts..  with just a bad switch..

Hello there,

My Jeep has been doing the same thing for the past year. After replacing the Electric Body Module three times(because this is what the dealership told me); still the same thing. My jeep has been in and out of the shop every two weeks for the past year trying to figure out this problem.

Does your instrumental panel gauges stop working when the door locks and windows do not work?

I believe that the problem with my jeep lies within the door actuator. If the driver side window lock is not on, then there is a clicking noise on the passenger side door, when you hear the clicking noise, the gauges go down, windows and locks stop working. After replacing the module the first time, the clicking noise was still there so they disconnected the automatic door lock on the passenger front door. Unfortunately, the clicking noise was still there; not as bad with the window lock on. Last night I was driving the jeep, clicking noise started, gauges went down, no door locks or power windows. I started messing wtih the passenger door switch, and window switch. The gauges came up, windows and door locks were working. Needless to say, my jeep is going back in Wednesday morning for this problem. I believe that there is a wire that is touching metal; shortening out everything else. I will keep you posted should the problem get fixed.
