I have a 02 Durango and it keeps locking up in park when i start the it, I hear the clicking when i depress the brake to unlock the shifter but it stays locked.
Later on it starts working again but i know it is a matter of time before it lets me sit somewhere.
There was a recall on this but it dosn't apply to mine.
Does anyone know how to fix this or to disable this lock?

there is a trick i have used on brand F cars... it might work on yours...

set the parking brake... turn the key to the first position... before the dash lights come on..   without touching the brake pedal.. as the truck should be held by the parking brake... pull the gear shifter to Neutral....      now .. you can press the brake pedal and start the engine...


this should work...  at least to get you driving ..    

check back tonight... i will try to find the other thread... and see what they said...  i have not had to tear into these yet...

you might see if you can find the TSB on the recall..... as that will have instructions on how to fix at least the other car..  should be similar...
