Im looking to lose a couple hundred pounds in my car to make it handle better and to be more fuel efficient. Whats really most important to me though is acceleration and handling. What are some ways I could make my car weigh less?

first... cut out all the supporting structures...  after you remove the interior and panels..  take out the window glass and replace it with lexan..     remove the motor and replace it with an aluminum version...     have the brake rotors machined to the minimum thickness..    sand the brake pads to half thickness..      with care you can reduce the volume of the fuel tank... by beating the upper half concave on both ends..

almost all dash boards are removable..  you can run just a oil pressure and temp gauge..     careful study of the wiring harness can remove pound and pounds of copper wire...

selecting the lightest wheels and tires available..  then have the tires shaved to half thickness.

you can also loose a lot of weight ... depending on the car.. by replacing the coil and leif springs with air bags...

gun drilled axles are also available..

grinding the sides of the engine block to reduce the thickness between the webbing..     light weight crankshafts are sometimes available...    removing mass from the flywheel... installing a smaller clutch.. or a smaller higher stall tiny converter..

hollow sway bars are available..

removing all the reinforcement under the plastic bumpers ..

you can also get a 14 pound battery that will fit in any position... they are starting to run them more in circle track..

before finishing this list of modifications..  you might want to lighten your wallet... by buying full medical coverage.. and a well studied Life insurance policy.  in case you have loved ones..

i have a friend who could not buy life insurance coverage.. or medical coverage...  he built fireworks..

Is it safe to cut out the supporting structures? Is there a way I could replace them with a lighter alternative?

Is lexan glass expensive? I would probably get the thinnest available. Probably 1/8 thickness. Is there a huge weight difference in factory glass and lexan glass?

I did some research on lighter brake rotors. It doesnt sound like a great idea to me. Its not very safe.

Could I buy a smaller fuel tank to install instead of beating it in?

Thanks for your input. I dont think I will go to this extreme but I will deffinitly consider some of the things you mentioned. I value my life. lol. Thanks again.
