2003 Toyota Camry - A/C light blinking - punctured compressor?

I'm seeking the advice of any experts or anyone else who has gone through this.  I have a 2003 Camry and the A/C light recently started blinking.  When that would happen, air would continue to blow out, but it wouldn't be cold anymore.  Through review of a couple different forums (including this one), I found others with the same issue and one fix suggested was that the clutch relay be replaced (in the box near the battery).

My husband replaced the clutch relay and the A/C worked fine for the next few days.  Then the blinking started again.  He took the relay out, put it back in, and it worked for another day before the blinking started again.  (Each time it would work, the air was cold.)

I took the car to the dealership this morning and they're telling me that my compressor is punctured (and the replacement cost will be $775).  What I don't understand is if the compressor is punctured and I was losing coolant, why would the air still have been cold when my husband fiddled with the relay?

Does the dealer's explanation sound legitimate or are they trying to rip me off?

Thanks for your help!!!
