I have a 1998 ford taurus se station wagon. It is a 6 cylinder with 129,000 miles on it. The number 1 cylinder has low compression and a leak down test showed air coming out the exhaust and the radiator. It will cost more to fix then the car is worth. To keep unburnt fuel from getting to the cat converter (it also is misfiring) can I just unplug that fuel injector? Since it is not operating very well anyway with the low compression/misfire I am just going to drive the engine till it dies and am trying to lessen the unburnt fuel that gets to the cat.

NOPE... sorry... if it had less than 100K miles... you might have gotten a motor from ford.. it probably has a blown head gasket.. it will also need the timing cover gasket replaced........
you might check prices at independent shops... if you have not gotten coolant into the oil... you might be able to save it..
and a bit of taurus humor.. a few storms back.. a rather large tree fell on the back of a taurus wagon.. i ask a lot of people if they heard it.. nobody did... i just wanted to know.. if a tree fell on a taurus.. does it make any noise.. if coolant has gotten into the oil... there will more than likely be more damage to the main , rod and cam bearings..
continuing.. when the city crews came 2 days later to cut up the tree.. i ask them if they knew who double parked that tree in the middle of the street... and i was really surprised that the parking enforcement people had not been out climbing in the branches looking for a VIN number or license plate so they could write the tree a ticket and get it impounded.. ... they seemed to like that one.. ...
sorry about your loss...

I only paid $450 at auction for it so I don't have much invested in it, I am just going to drive it till it dies then go back to the auction and buy another. I am just trying to find ways to stretch out the life of the car/cat as long as possible.
