My Toyota Camry SE came with tires with a V speed rating, but I'd like to replace them with a T speed rated tire because I can't find any V-rated tires that are expected to last as long as I want. I've been told you should use tires with as high a speed rating as the original equipment. How important is this? T-rated tires are supposedly good up to 118 mph, and I'm a conservative driver. The tires I had hoped to get are Michelin Hydroedge, which are supposed to be very good tires. Would I really be better off with V-rated tires that may be of lesser overall quality?
Thanks, JF

If I have to generalize:
V rated tires will be superior to T rated tires in speed capability, handling, and grip. Overall, this results in a safer tire.
So by going to a T rated tire, you will gain some wear, but the handling will not feel as precise - and depending on what tire you go to, it could be quite noticeable.
I suggest you go with H rated tires. There are plenty that have good treadwear ratings and will have a good compromise for the grip, handling, and overall safety.
