My top mount needs replaced badly. It looks pretty simple but Ive never done it. Do I need to put a brace under the engine before changing it or is this not nessasary since its just the top mount?

is it the dog bone shaped mount..

the only thing.. you need to do it on a totally level area... so you can rock the car back and forth with your knees...

you will need either a pair of 15mm tools..  or 18mm tools...  those are the usual sizes..

if you are talking about the mounts from the top front of the motor to the radiator core support.

if you post what model and engine size you have.. i will see if there is anything else...

if you are talking about the motor mounts on the ends of the motor.. you do have to support the car..

some buicks have a torque strut under the front of the car..

there are about half a dozen ways gm does it..

It is a 1992 Buick Century and yes it is the dog bone shaped mount that goes from the engine to the radiator support. Not sure of the engine type its my brothers car and im going to replace it for him. Anything else you can think of would help. Thanks.

the torque struts go on easy...   you did get the hint about doing it on a truly level surface..   with the car in park...  you can lean against the car and rock the motor to get the torque strut last bolt in..

with a 3.3 v6 there is a single motor mount on the end of the engine.. and a front and rear transmission mount..  you need to lift and support the motor to do those..     many times you can use a jack from the bottom...   but most mechanics use a support bar from the top...

you also have a better than 50% chance one of the other mounts is also bad...

this is what mechanics use to lift the motor from the top to change motor mounts...   with care of what they attach it to

some tool rental stores may have something like it...
