I have a budget of $5,000-$6,000 and I am currently trying to decide on a used car. I live in Boulder, CO, and am an avid skiier/hiker/camper etc. I need a car that is reliable and can get me to the mountains no matter what the conditions. I narrowed down my choices to the Ford Explorer (1996, 150K miles), Subaru Legacy Outback (1999, 150K mi) and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (1996, 147K mi). The Jeep has been taken care of the best (no accidents, only two owners and oil changes every 3,000 mi) and I am currently leaning towards getting it. What I would like to know is if anyone has owned a Jeep, Subaru, or Ford Explorer, and what the reliability for these cars is like. Any advice is welcome, thanks.
PS- Only shopping used cars, would like it to last for 40k mi or at least 5 years

Jeep lorado. HOWEVER this jeep cheorkee model seems to need a helper leaf spring kit. The rear leaf springs soon start bending down and flatning out.
I recomend if you buy this to go to autozone \advanced auto or whereever you prefer to shop for car parts and buy a helper leaf kit.
Shouldn't run more than 45$ for both, and will give your suspension a small lift while providing slightly increased drivability.
