I cranked the CRV, drove a short distance & it just died & won't crank.  Has gas & battery & alternator is good.  Replaced the distributor cap.  Still won't crank.  what else can I check?  

cranking is when you turn the key to the start position and an electric motor spins the rotating parts ...

if it does not crank.. after you shut it off..   then you need to examine the starting system..   battery , cables, starter, grounds, ignition switch, starter relay,   neutral safety switch...


if it died while you were driving it.. and won't start.. thats a whole different story..

when was the last time you had the timing belt changed???

since you have had the distributer cap off.. take it back off.. and see if when you crank the motor.. if the distributer turns.. if not.. probably the timing belt..
