I have a 2001 Expedition. The rear of the vehicle is sitting on the ground because the rear air bags(???) or whatever have a leak. The dealer told me that due to the leak the compressor has failed also and the whole system is bad. They said to fix all of this it would cost me $2700!!! This is insane! Is there any other way to fix this thing without spending my entire monthly budget? I can hardly drive it because it bounces like crazy. Help!

service information is available online...

eautorepair.net     or alldatadiy.com

most of the parts are available individually ...

most of the time...   the rear air bags blow out..    i have not done them on this application..    i seem to recall less than an hour to replace both rear bags.. a lot less to do just one..

floor jack and proper jack stands to support the frame while you work under it.. with the suspension hanging will be required ...

does  your truck have rear air suspension or are all four corners equipped with air springs???

here is some stuff i googled..

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=replacing+2001+ford+air+springs&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

http://www.strutmasters.com/ford-expedition-suspension-parts-s/76.htm

there is one thing... if the ford dealer replaces all the parts... it will last a long time...   but if they charge for all of them .. and only fix what's broken...   ................   hmm.....

the second link is one of the many companies who sell conversion kits to get rid of the air suspension...      that model did come without... ... so its easy to retrofit steel springs... and really not notice a lot of difference in the ride...

I called the Strutmasters place you recommended and spoke to a guy named Angelo. They got the whole thing fixed with a lifetime warranty for $450. They gave me conversion kit. My mechanic charged me $180 to install it and it rides like when it was new. What a great deal compared to what the dealer was going to charge me. Thanks for your advice. I am glad that I did a little research and asked for help. It saved me a bundle!
