172,000 miles. Both 2h and 4h slip but eventually (2-5 sec)engage. Can buy a 1997 gmc jimmy 4x4 parts car with rebuilt trany does that fit? Dealer that sold me the car had me sign off of trany problems and took $800 off. Am I an idiot? Car is in otherwise perfect condition paid 2000. What should I do first? Dealer said drain some trany fluid and add "Lucas" fluid said that might work forever??? A trany guy that had an attitude said if I drank the Lucas fluid that would also work forever. I'm just trying to provide my 19 year old transportation to school in New England weather. I did however find the Lucas fluid with vodka and a lime quite tasty.

you need to be a little more descriptive of the symptoms. is it a delayed engagement when going from park to drive ? describe each shift if you can when cold and hot. pull the dip stick and wipe it with a white napkin and describe the color and smell of the fluid. i think that 97 trans will fit {not completly sure about that though} but the torque convertor is probably different.
