2001 sport trac (2wd). I had breaks/rotors replaced (non motorcraft parts)50k miles ago with NO problems. 4 months ago i have the front bearings re-packed and shortly after that have left and right ball joints replaced. Imediately noticed the ABS slide at low deceleration speeds. I've seen previous remarks from a year ago - has anybody been able to diagnose the problem? My daughter will be driving solo soon and don't want her to drive the truck.... Our fleet mechanic thot it might be the speed sensor - but when i checked it out, it was fine. Can the ABS be hooked up to a computer and have a diagnostic check like the one under the dashboard???? ... and have there been any recalls on this?????

yes.. the antilocks can be diagnosed with a scan tool with an ABS cartridge...

there are also solo plug in ABS code readers and scan tools..

alldatadiy.com will have any recall titles and TSB titles for free on their site front page..   right side of the page..

when it does the abs slide as you describe it..   does the abs light on the dash board come on..???

i would start with an evening at autozone.com...

join and log in..

then select your year make model.. then select repair info..

they have a great section on antilock brakes.. and you will need a scan or code reader to fix it properly...

I have no ABS dash light come on.... When the ABS senses a tire going faster than the other, that will trigger the ABS breaking. I wonder - since i had the front end work done - if I have 1 caliper grab a little harder than the other - setting the ABS off??
