I have a 1992 honda accord ex with 225,000 miles. i have had it for about a year now. i had problems with it starting about a month after i bought it. the guy i bought it from let the car sit for a while. i assumed there was sediment in the gas and the fuel filter needed to be changed. i did so and the problem went away. this summer the same thing started happenening. so i emptied the gas tank, changed the fuel filter, and filtered the old gas(which didnt have much sediment). i also put fuel stabilizer in the tank to be sure(though i dont think that stuff does anything) the car was great for a couple weeks. now i am having trouble starting again. this only happens every once in a while and only in the afternoon when its warm outside. i want to say i am getting spark but i wont know until i change the plugs and look at the distributor cap this weekend. i am afraid that the injectors need to be cleaned(which is expensive for a $900 car). i dont want to do anymore unnecessary work. any ideas anyone has would be great. this same problem would happen to a friend of mine with his car. i dont think it is electrical because it starts in the mornings when it is cool. thanks again for taking your time to read.

pull your injectors and soak them in PB blast.
It'll remove any buildup of any kind, just DONT get the PB blast in the electrical area that could turn out rather bad quickly.
have you changed the oil?
see if your mechanic has a compression tester. test for compression on all cylinders it should be right about 150 +,- a few.
Start there and report back.
PS: carb\choke cleaner will also work like pb blast but less corrosive.

change the honda main EFI relay under the left side of the dash board...
they go intermittent... and will drive people crazy... it is the first thing that most honest mechanics check on hondas...
you can take it out by pulling the lower cover off the dash.. if it is still there... with a 10 mm socket on a long extension.. you can unscrew the single bolt that holds it in place ... un hook the wires... and it will come out...
if you know how to solder... you can in most cases... resolder the circuit board and make it work... this is what is causing the intermittent failures... rosin core solder.. NOT ACID CORE>.
if you don't know how to solder... don't try it.. you can damage stuff if you mess up... and cost you a lot more than the 60 bucks for a new relay.. price them at honda also.. take a look at the pictures online... or walk into a parts store.. there are several relays under the dash.. but only one that looks like this..
Duralast / Relay - Main For your 1992 Honda Accord 2.2L FI 4cyl Part Number: 19236
the main relay.. powers the fuel injection and the electric fuel pump... so it could be the cause of several problems.. except for cranking... if the starter fails to crank the motor... there are contacts inside that wear away.... causing the annoying CLICK CLICK CLICK crank... the starter has to come off to fix those...
Type: Gear Reduction Starter Repair Kit Brand: Dorman - HELP! - Carded 02349 Replace the contacts-not the starter, kit contains 1 narrow contact, 1 wide contact, 1 left contact, 1 right contact, 2 bolts, 2 square insulators, 2 round insulators, 2 hex nuts, 2 curved washers, and 2 o-rings
