Nissan Versa Owners - Beware!

While driving our new 2009 Versa base 4-dr Sedan, with only 168 miles on it at the time, my wife had a scary episode happen with our brand new car. It seems that while driving the car through our neighborhood the linkage between the clutch pedal and the connector to the transmission simply...came apart without warning. The clutch pedal went completely to the floor board...and stayed there. The clutch no longer would function. Luckily my wife was driving slowly and was able to ease the car over to the curb and get help. But if this were to happen on a busy street, highway, or on a hill, I can only imagine that I would be telling a much darker story than I already am.

To make a long story short...after several mishaps and poor communications between employees at the dealer...2 weeks for the dealer to order parts and replace the same "cheap plastic connector"...twice, we finally have the car back in our driveway. The problem now is that Nissan, knowing the fragile nature of the part, will not guarantee us that this major part wont fail on us again. This is a horrendous design flaw by Nissan, as one can easily separate the two parts with their bare fingers just as easily as removing a cap from the end of a ball point pen. That isn't much considering the importance of this part and the safety issues its failure involves. Even the dealership's General Manager went and tried to disconnect the part and agreed that the it seemed cheap and prone to fail ...yet he would do nothing to assure us that our car was safe to drive. All he would say is that "Nissan safety-tests all their parts".

Hmm, well I think they missed one here!

Don't buy a manual transmission Versa. We are now looking to dump this lemon as soon as possible and go back to Hondas. We have lost all confidence in the Versa vehicle, and we don't feel safe driving this car since the linkage has now failed twice on us with only 180 miles on the odometer. I might expect a recall on this part, as I can only imagine that others are finding the same flaw. Too bad that the force behind a fix from Nissan might have to come at the expense of someone's health or even life.

I am having the EXACT same issue, only it started much later. Against the advice of my husband, I bought the car when it first came out and it now has 57,000 miles on it.  I bought the versa when my 10-year old Saturn was hit by another car and a guard rail; I never once had to replace my clutch.

I have 57,000 miles on my versa and last week I noticed the clutch was sticking, I would tap on the clutch and it would pop right back.  Last night it didn't pop back into place and this morning it stuck in the middle of a major intersection and I panicked.  I immediately called my Nissan dealership to ask about the problem and to bring it in.  The service rep said he had not heard of the problem before. My father looked at the clutch and he seems to think it is a faulty cable; maybe this plastic replacement piece??

I loved the car until last year.  I have to keep getting the tire pressure light re-set but still turns on when I hit a bump on the highway.  The hubcaps did not agree with the pot holes left after last winter and they have all snapped off.  My car isn't even three years old and I am concerned it won't last me another 3! Thank goodness I for the extended super plus warranty!
