I have had my Wrangler for 2 1/2 years and never had this problem. I bought it brand new. Three weeks ago I had an oil change and my tires rotated. I say this because I wonder if it had anything to do with what happened a few days ago. After driving on flat, straight road at about 55-60 mph, my Jeep suddenly started shaking very badly. When I say very badly, I mean I have never experiences anything like this before. It felt like the wheels were coming off. The engine sounded bad and there were some burning smells. I slowed down to a stop very quickly and the shaking stopped. I was able to drive home at 30 mph. I feared going any faster. Once home, I checked under the hood (not knowing what I was looking for) and noticed a part of the serpentine belt had peeled off. The belt was still running, but it was clearly damaged. Also, a metal piece of some sort fell off from underneath the Jeep in my driveway. It is under warranty, and the mechanic at the dealer said the only things in need of fixing were the serpentine belt and the tensioner. I guess the tensioner failed and shredded the belt. He said the metal piece was some "assembly" piece that was not needed. (the tow truck driver thought it was a radiator clip...hmmm) The mechanic didn't seem to fully think the tensioner and belt caused the shaking. Now I don't know what to do or think. I am afraid to drive my own car. Does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom? I would greatly appreciate it. I am at a total loss.... Thanks

for front front tire wobble problems on these jeeps..
change the steering damper... it is located on the steering linkage... infront of the axle... it is a shock absorber... that is designed to dampen the wobbles before they can be started.. the steering dampers do wear out...
when tires are changed.. the mass of the front end is different... so the factory damper that is worn may not be up to the job...
some steering designs have this problem.... it is just part of the design... if they could design it without a damper.. they would..

I ALSO HAVE A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER 4 DOOR. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO METHE SHAKING. I FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE JEEP. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE STEERING STABLIZER. I REPLACED IT IN SEPT. THE JEEP RAN FINE. NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH IT AND WAS TOLD IT IS THE STEERING STABLIZER AGAIN.IT WAS REPLACED 5 MONTHS AGO.I AM STARTING TO WONDER IF IT IS SOMETHING ELSE. PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS.

dude, I got a 2007 4-door wrangler off a dealership three years ago and at about 60,000 miles I had the exact same problem..... some call it a death wobble and it feels like the entire jeep is going to break up ... when this happened to me ... my jeep was just out of warranty... i took it back to dealership only for them to tell me i need new tires... i got new tires, alignment and it didn't help... took it back again and they said I need a heavier steering dampener/stabilizer... i got one of those and no help... I finally took it to a buddy and who told me my front ball joints were bad... we replaced them and thing were good for another 30,000 miles... then it stated again... however, this time there was nothing wrong with the ball joints, tires, or steering stabilizer. I had the tires aligned and this seem to help.... I now have about 100,000 miles on it and it's starting again.... I haven't had that death wobble yet but i feel it start to shake a little around 55-65 mph and just become tense and paranoid about it.... if you find a fix for your jeep that is different from I've discussed - i would appreciate you letting me know... thanks keith (kaoticanarchist@gmail.com)

Wow, excellent!, thanks for your input I just bought my jeep a month ago, and the previous ownrer failed to tell me about the 'death shake'. For me, it happens when travelling around 70-80 kph when I hit a decent bump in the road. There seems to be a 'natural frequency' that happens that takes it into the shake! Pretty scary when on a busy highway! thanks for the information. I'll check around the vehicle and thanksfully I have some idea of what's happening now! most appreciated!!!

Today I took my 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door to the dealership only to find that my warranty expired 2 weeks ago! I too have suffered through the "DEATH WOBBLE" and told the dealer that I would not drive it off the lot until it is fixed. They called Chrysler to see if they would extend the warranty, but Chrysler said no! The dealer called me and told me that it would cost me $900 to fix it. I went back up with bright yellow signs stating the dealerships name and that they sold me a lemon. I was going to stand on the sidewalk outside the dealership and hold these signs up until they fixed the problem. When they saw my signs, they brought me inside and told me that they would make some calls to see if they could pay for this. My problem is that I don't ever want to experience this DEATH WOBBLE again. I have been reading about so many people getting this fixed only to have the problem resurface later. I would feel bad trading it in and just passing on the problem to another, so does anyone know of a total fix that I can have the dealer do? They are telling me that my stearing stabilizer is bad, as well as my tires. HELP PLEASE

I too have experienced the "death wobble". It is the most frightening thing ever!! I cannot believe Jeep has been able to get away with this obvious design flaw. I'm at a complete loss. I've had it checked out several times and no one has an answer. I've replaced the tie rods, steering damper, tires, rotated and balanced, etc. etc. I now need valium just to drive this damn car!!
