Toyota Tundra

I just recently purchased the Rock Warrior Edition of the Toyota Tundra.  It was made specifically to go off-roading, or so they say.  All the advertisements for this vehicle show it going through mud, water and rough terrain.  However, when I took it off-roading, the mud and water corroded the wiring harness.  This however, Toyota says is not covered by warranty.  I now have a new truck with only 2000 miles on it sitting in the garage waiting to be fixed beacause it did not stand up to its advertisements.  It's going to cost me $1200 to fix and Toyota refuses to make good on the deal.  Toyota needs to rethink how they present this truck to the public or stand behind what they say.

just curious.... which part of the harness got water logged.. or mud clogged..

there are so many things that can be damaged by deep water...

just be glad the ECM is not under the seats...  like they used to be...

i just hope its only the harness... not the ecm and some of the sensors...  did you have your differential fluids changed????

how are the sealed wheel bearings doing????  are the brakes rotors rusting up????   how about the brake pads... the caliper sliders...   did you get under the truck and lube all the Ujoints .. if they are lube able..  how about the steering linkage... is that greaseable???

i guess.. that toyota did intend on selling a truck.. not a submarine...

there are several web sites that talk about preparing trucks for deep water....

you might want to invest in several rolls of self vulcanizing silicone tape...    going around every connector grommet...

many auto parts stores have light bulb grease...  that might be used in the connectors to protect against water...   real white lithium grease has worked in the past for many people....

you might also examine the air intake...  some of them pull air from places that can get deep water into...

i have a friend with a mini cooper...  one of newer ones..    he tried to drive through a foot or so of water..  he made it across... but just before it got out.. a 4X4 came through putting up a HUGE WAKE>..    swamped him... it still ran.. till he got it out of the water.. and tried to accelerate... then it pulled in a bunch of water from the air cleaner ...  it did not have enough time to drain...  cost over 10K to fix...  just remember the movie with pierce brosnan, the one with the volcano.. and his suburban was fixed to swim...    driving into the raging stream.. and the family in the wagon behind him.. trying to do the same..  oops...

hope you get it fixed...  be sure to keep the extra harness.. you payed for it...
