I have a 2004 nissan maxima and when started it makes a loud noise.It sounds as if it is coming from the timing chain area. My mechanic says this car was recalled for a similar problem is that correct.  

there are several things that could be making noise... the water pump is driven by the timing chain...  i have not been in the engine of one of these.. so won't be any help...  anybody else...?????   how many miles on it... ??????
