A coworker of mine is selling a 95 honda accord with 156000 miles. The car looks like it's in very good condition. New battery, fairly new tires, new brakes, clear title.. they are asking for $3000 which i feel is a bit much. I guess im just wondering if it's worth it and how much i should offer. I only do local driving and would need it to last in decent condition for at least 2 more years id say...

Should i ask any specific questions?

I JUST BOUGHT THE SAME CAR 1995 HONDA ACCORD LX IT HAS 158,000 MILES ON IT THAT IS NOTHING ON A HONDA, HONDA'S CAN GET WELL INTO 300,000 PLUS MILES IF MAINTAINED RIGHT JUS KEEP THE OIL CHANGED. I BOUGHT MY HONDA FROM A PRIVITE OWNER FOR $1,000 WHICH IS VERY CHEAP FOR A HONDA I HAVE TO PUT BREAKS ON IT AND I HAVE A CRACK IN MY WINDSHEID BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT. I HAVE CO-WORKERS WHO HAVE THE SAME CAR AND HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND MANY OF THEM HAVE HAD THE CAR WELL OVER 5YRS. THE ONLY THING ABOUT HONDA IS IF SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IT CAN BE A LITTLE MORE COSTLY THAN AN AMERICAN CAR PART. THEY ARE VERY RELIABLE CARS. I WOULD PRICE THE CAR ON KELLYBLUEBOOK.COM AND GO FROM THERE I WOULD NEVER PAY THE ASKING PRICE ALWAYS TALK THE PERSON DWN ATLEAST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS. OFFER WAT YOU REALLY WANT TO PAY SHOW THAT PERSON THE MONEY TO LET THEM KNOW THAT UR SERIOUS. GOODLUCK HOPE THIS HELPS U OUT.

A 95 with 156,000 miles for $3000 is overpriced unless it comes with about $1500 or more of loose change in between the seat cushions IMO.  Also my opinion, buying a car simply because it is a Honda and relying on Honda's being good cars is a bad idea.  Any car can be a good deal, and as another poster stated, it is all in how the vehicle was maintained in the past.

That being said $3000 could likely get you a 1999-2000 compact car of another make such as hyundai, ford, or another less pricey vehicle.  My brother just bought a 1999 hyundai accent last week with 15,000 miles on it for about $3000.  Though I would agree that a Honda is probably a better car than an accent, I feel strongly that a car with 15k will be running well and driving daily long after that Honda has rusted into oblivion.

I hope this information is helpful.

Running into a good car for a cheap price doesn't happen very often so it's usually worth it to buy it even if you have to take out an http://www.catond.com/apply.php.  If you have bad credit I found the following site has a high tolerance! http://www.catond.com/apply.php
