Odd/Extra Revving Noise

My Buick Rendezvous makes an odd/extra revving noise when speeding up, but it is not related to the increased RPMs.  It does not make the noise when parked and revved, but will when coasting downhill and increasing in speed naturally, as well as when driving around town.  The sound reminds me of a wind-up car.  The faster the vehicle, the more "wound-up" it sounds.  Any ideas?

wheel bearings....  ???????  are the likely cause....

what speed to you hear it at????

any chance that a plastic inner fender is rubbing a tire or that something has wrapped around an axle and is rubbing a tire????

perhaps some trash or debris wrapped up and touching one of the antilock tone wheels on the front axle...

Thanks for the help.  It happens at all speeds -- revving higher with increased speed.  Good idea about something rubbing (cheaper than some alternatives); I will check it out in the morning.

Any other ideas?  Is the transmission a part of the engine itself or separate?
