Independent Car Dealer

Hello,

I have been looking at some Carfax reports and some of them warn me to be careful of curbsiding (which I believe is a person who sells cars but poses as a private seller when, in reality they are selling many cars for profit).

Now, I have been talking to a guy who says he is an 'Independent Car Dealer.' He says he is a licensed car dealer, and buys at auctions etc and sells to customers. He does not however, have a specific dealership lot or a particular place where he keeps all of the cars he sells (He may have a little shop where he talks with customers about the cars etc. but I am not sure). So, I am wondering whether this is legitimate.

Thanks.

depending on the state rules.. car dealers have to have a business address...

warning... deal face to face...    open the door  check the VIN number,    look through the windshield check the vin number..

open the hood.. check the vin numbers on the fenders,   open the trunk... check the vin numbers on labels there also...

there are tons of "Independent car dealers"..  parking cars on the streets with signs in the windows...    they are so independent... they really don't have dealers licenses.. you don't need one to buy from police impounds...

the cars come with the warrantee...

Money Gone If Not Thrilled.......................

there are also a lot of people who won't deal face to face... send them a check or money transfer.. the car will be delivered.. it almost never comes..   they are scam artists..

In some states a person is allowed to sell a set number of cars without having a dealer license. If you buy from such a person it will be like buying from an individual, so buyer beware.
Also keep in mind if he's buying cars from auctions, there is a reason the car went to auction, the previous dealer didn't think it was good enough to keep on his lot, it sat on the lot a long time and never sold, or there is something wrong with the car.
