I surely would appreciate any help in diagnosing the problem with my transmission. My Maxima drives forward but the wheels will not turn in reverse. They lock up. Thanks for your help in advance. Jim

The most likely problem is the low {forward}clutches are burnt and have welded themselves together.I have seen this many times.Its overhaul time.or you can shut it off and push it backwards.

The wheels will not turn in reverse even with the motor turned off. Thanks for your reply.

If you jack up the front can you turn one wheel?If you put it in reverse does it move a little and then jam or is it locked immediately?something in the differential is locking up if it doesn't move backwards with the engine off.If you can let the trans hang enough to get the transfer gear cover off you might find something in there{rear of trans on drivers side}
