Runs poorly, dies randomly.  Only sometimes does the engine check lite come on.  Getting codes like VGR and MAP problems but not all the time.  Map is $90 and I hate to do it on a hunch.  Anyway I can bypass it to see if it is a problem?  If I disconnect it and plug the vacume line it seems about the same, maybe dies more often.  When I drive it, it goes sort of ok, dies at idle, or when just starting off.  Starts up fine, just won't hold the idle, but totally randomly...sometimes will go 2 minutes at an idle,  next time it dies in 10 seconds.  Haven't got a tach to text MAP.  Any ideas?

do you have a timing light??????    if so... put it on the coil wire....   tape the trigger on....  aim it as you while someone starts the motor... see if the light stops flashing before the engine stops turning...   that would indicate an ignition failure...    module. pick up coil... ignition coil...    on that model there should be a little plug hanging in the end of a connector near the distributer... pull this and start it... see if it still dies... post what you find...

other things that can cause this problem..

dirty ground connectors ...  dirty throttle body bores...   dirty or just worn out idle air control valve...   bad ignition module.. no dielectric tune up grease under the module, causing it to overheat and fail...     bad hall effect pick up in the distributer...
ignition coil leaking voltage through the plastic insulation,

oh.. one thing before you go any farther... climb under the van... find the fuel filter... unscrew the cap and replace the element...

a long time ago... one was in a friends shop... we were running in circles... replacing stuff...  again and again...  after the second round of changing stuff... i wondered if the fuel filter had been changed...    nobody could find it... it has a plastic cap that screws off on that one... did not look like a fuel filter...

post what you find....
