Hi, I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 1999 4.0 Liter. All electrical components, including the horn, radio controls, and cruise control, have stopped working on the steering wheel/column. I have checked all the fuses and they all seem to be alright. Any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

it is probably the clock spring...   a what....   yes.. it is called a clock spring...

it is under the steering wheel....   it is a ribbon cable that is wound into a cassette...   so the steering wheel can turn left and right...

the wires have enough slack in the cassette to wind and unwind many times  without damage...

here is a link to a pdf  file with various clock springs.. i did not see anything for your jeep...   i take it that it has a tilt column..

http://www.dormanproducts.com/catalog/OESolutions2006/021-024ClockSprings.pdf

i have seen a few of these unwind after steering column work. or steering box replacement..   when the workman spun the steering wheel  with it disconnected from the box...

tilt column...  cruise control... radio controls...

i may be wrong.. but on some cars.. there is an infra red transmitter on the steering wheel and a receiver on the dash board...

i will have to do some research..     not enough time right now...

autozone probably has instructions on their web site...   read the instructions first..

the air bag wiring also feeds through the clock spring.. so you have to be careful not to set off the air bag... the plug has to be unplugged under the dash first..

if you take it to a shop ... or a steering column repair place... be sure that you use an ink or magic marker to mark the corner of your air bag cover...  so they don't switch it for a discharged one that was repacked...  its been done...
