Suddenly there is no 3rd or 4th gear.  Shifts out of 2nd and just free-wheels.  Code scanner says no codes stored.  This is a two year old tranny that has never towed etc.  The symptom points to the 3 - 4 clutch pack, is that very most likely the problem?  Two years old.....  Anyone have a realistic idea what that should cost to have repaired?  Tempted to do it ourselves ( we have built engines etc.,) but have never been in an auto trans.  If that is a stupid idea, feel free to to tell me that and I won't go that direction.

I think we were sold some bad woork two years ago - for $3,000.

It is most likely the 3-4 clutch.If it wasnt slipping or shifting sloppy before it went then it could be that rather than burning up the clutches the teeth on the clutches that spline to the planetary gear hub just stripped out.Another thing i have seen is the top of the drum that holds the snap ring for the 3-4 clutch pack breaks off.If the trans was rebuilt 2 years ago it is probably worth your while to take a look yourself.If you find one of the problems i described it should be a pretty quick fix.Get the ATSG manual.You can download a pdf from their web sight.

That info is exactly the type of info I was hoping for.  I ordered the manual and the updates tonight from ATSG.  We will pull out the trans and take a look, have nothing to lose.
