I want to buy a new small truck. I want a 4 door. Bed size does not matter (no step sides). I test drove a colarado with an in line 5 cylinder and was happy with the power. I am sceptical of a 4 cylinder. I am also curious as to the durability of a aluminum engine. Please give me some feedback and advice on this and your experiences with small trucks. -Thanks

Colarado and Canyon are nice trucks for the money, The 5 cyl. runs nice, decent fuel economy and good power. Check out www.carsdirect.com , you can find a few 1 or 2 year old ones with low miles, get an extended warranty and still save a grand or two!

IMHO the I5 does not give you any real savings in mpg's. It's actually an I6 with one less cylinder. It's too bad GM could not have found room to use the I6. Nice engine and was rated as one of the Top Ten Best Engines by Wards. I'm not bias against GM or or American products because I have own both American and *** My present truck is a '95 GMC Sonoma 4x4 with 110K miles. It's been bullit proof. My plans were to replace the '95 with a Canyon/Colorado but GM's choice of using a 5cylinder quickly changed my mind against that choice. The Ford Ranger is outdated. Their 4.0 V6 is old school and lacking in hp's. Toyota Tacoma is nice but the frame is mostly 'C' channel. The composite bed that Toyota boast about in theory is nice but the rearend of a pickup is light enought without making it even lighter. Toyota's 4.0 'recommends' using premium but it will run on regular gas. The hp's are quite a bit less on the Toyota(238 versus 265)than the Nissan Frontier. The Frontier just happens to fit my expectations in a midsize pickup. But if somebody wants to make the payments for me on a GMC Colorado/Canyon I'll buy it.....lol

Stick to a truck made in the USA. The Toyota's, Honda's, Nissan's, etc. are WAY too over priced. You have lots to choose from if you stick to the Fords, Chevys, Dodges and GMCs. And you will save a lot of money.
