I have a 2001 Ford Explorer that when I start it using the gas pedal it will start but the second that I release the gas it dies. It simply will not idle at all even if I keep the RPM's up for a while thinking that it would warm up it still dies when it goes to idle. I just returned from driving it about 1500 miles up to my home and back and it ran fine the whole time. It has 57,000 miles on it and I keep the maintenance up on it regularly. Anybody have any ideas as what could be the problem??

change the idle air control valve on top of the intake.. under the plastic cover.. takes less than 10 minutes... you do need a few tools.. 7mm , 8mm and maybe a 10 mm nut driver or quarter inch drive socket set...
when you restart the motor.. you will have to bring the throttle up to about 2500 rpms... keep your foot steady.. then as slow as possible.. let you foot off the throttle a tiny bit at a time... so the engine slows down gradually... you might take 30 to 45 seconds to let it do it..... this will let the ecm learn the how the new idle air control valve works...
the idle air control valve is a Linear motor... the armature slides in and out depending on how much voltage the ecm sends to it..

Don't start with gas. Please start with petrol and then turn into gas mode.
