Headed out in my truck today, auto trans shifted from 1st to 2nd then got to about 30 mpg and the engine just races and it won't shift to 3rd fluid looked good, pulled pan and all looks good, wondered if I need to put in new shift solenoids, or is there something else I should check before putting in new filter and fluid, truck has the 4L60E in it.  Thanks Chuck  

Its not a solinoid.If you have 1st and 2nd then the shift solinoids are working.You could drop the valve body and check the 2-3 accumulator under the separator plate.Also check to see if a checkball pounded its way through the plate.But start saving your sheckels cause you probably need an overhaul.Even if the fluid looks good the 3-4 clutches could be cooked.
