I have a 2000 Mazda Protege LX with 109,000 miles on it. I bought this car new. About 3 - 4 years ago, I noticed the passenger side floor was getting wet. I took it in to have the a/c drain unclogged. It was unclogged, so I though the problem was solved. Well, this continues to happen, the a/c drain tube is clean and it does drain. This only happens in the Summer when I have the a/c on. My mechanics have no idea what is causing the floor to get soaked, I mean soaked. You can see the water puddling on the carpet. Does anyone have any ideas. It is not rain coming in, and it is not a leak in the a/c drain hose either. Please Help!!!

Hey guys, how r u? Hope well.
I have exactly the same problem on my mazda protege 2000. I have been doing some following to the leaking, first on the AC drain and it was working fine, and second I put kitchen paper in different places to try to catch where does the water comes from. Today it was a rainy night and I was taking a look on all the spots I had kitchen paper, only one got wet, unfortunately the less specific one, the one on the floor on the front right corner of the passenger seat. So I then pull up the carpet and tried to follow a little trace of watter that was coming from something that ppl calls "the firewall". I had to be upside down on the passenger seat, but I got to see a black plastic cover and some watter coming from behind it. I touched it with my nail and the dry part was pretty hard and the wet part was pretty soft. So I started pulled it up (it comes glued to the firewall) and discovered something that looks to me like a "fracture" or an irregular line like 10 cms long that allows little amount of watter to continually run inside the cabin.
I don't know where does the watter comes from, but I could also hear some water dropping on the other side of the firewall, which makes me think that the watter is accumulating somewhere behind the windshield and when it's too much is just escaping though this "fracture".
If you guys have more ideas I would really appreciate them, if I have some progress on finding the source I will get back here.
(hope this thing is not so expensive)

this is a link to an image of the ac system on an earlier model...
http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/26/13/00/large/0900c15280261300.gif
you can see that the system has a hole through the firewall to bring fresh air into the car.. it is usually located under the grill right in front of the windshield..
most of the mazda dealerships parts departments can print a diagram of the ac system and other parts that might pass through the firewall...
i have not been in a mazda factory service manual in a long time... i don't know how much stuff they will show... so you can identify the problem... if you can... do post it... google scan this info hourly... so it really wont take a long time to get the word out..
great find... i bet it will help a lot of people...
