Alright guys, here's the problem.

My car is pretty old, and the engine has gone bad. I'm thinking I have to buy another engine, but apparently the engine for this car is hard to find so it's gonna cost me about 2200 (engine and labor).

The engine was emitting black smoke, and i think it was leaking oil. Eventually it stopped running altogether. Is there another way to fix this problem besides buying another engine?

black smoke out the tail pipe is more than likely a bad fuel pressure regulator....
there are 3 different motors available for that model...    the fuel pressure regulator is bolted to the fuel rail and has a vacuum hose on it to the intake manifold ........

or one of the fuel control items causing the fuel system to go full rich....

it could also be an engine coolant temp sensor gone bad...  or disconnected..   this sensor tells the ecm how hot the engine is so it sets the proper fuel mixture...

is it a turbo charged model???? the 1.8 or 2.0
