I was at work around midnight, and heard a horn blowing. Went to investigate, and it turned out to be my own car! What could be the cause? I read through the manual, and noticed one oddity. It says the ignition key can only be removed in the Lock position. My key can be removed in any position: Accessories, Lock, Off, and On. It's a 96 Ford Windstar I bought 7 months ago, and has always been this way. One other possibility is a broken flask leaked about 8 cups of coffee onto the passenger-side floor-mat.

Maybe the vehicle was a target of theft and has an add-on alarm system installed. You can get a vehicle history report through CarFax.

I had a Saturn SC2 that did the same thing. I found that the horn relay had begun to burn out, and nothing was keeping power from feeding to it. So, it decided to sound at about 4:30am in front of the row of townhomes. Fortunately, I was able to drive it to an empty parking lot till it was done. Once I replaced the relay it was fine. I picked it up at my local Pep Boys and replaced it my self. I think it cost me less than $20.

The horn relay definetely needs to be replaced. Replace the relay and see if it still does it. The coffee shouldn't do anything to your car besides make it smell funny.

pvm311 states: "My key can be removed in any position: Accessories, Lock, Off, and On...[it] has always been this way." You may need to use graphite lube on the ignition cylinder. Can you start it without the key?

I agree with a few of you. I would replace the horn relay, also check the horn itself and make sure the contracts are coroded or worn
