I have a 94 626 that won't fire. V6. Turns over, but that's it. Car was sitting in the drive way for about 3 hours went to leave and that's what I get...

Bought new dist. and that wasnt the problem. Heard it may have soemthing to do with the Anti-Theft system. Any truth in that and if there is, what do I need to do? If not, what could be causing this problem

My grandfather says that he tried that. Spent 400 bucks on a new distributor. And, can't return it. Lol. O well.

A friend of mine used to have a 97 Probe and he said that it did the exact same thing. Since the motors are the same in the two, you think it may be the same problem? He changed his crankshaft sensor and it fired right up.

Well, it depends on where you bought the distributor, we return a lot of the after market ones back in with a word we put on them saying "Defective"

If it's a trade back to the parts place then you'll get another, you want the money back it ain't gonna happen.

The crank sensor on your car is contained in the distributor, kind of an electronic package of parts, I just thought of something else, is the timing belt blown? Is the distributor really turning when you crank, hm?

Let me know what you end up finding, Good Luck

I found a site that says that there are two sensors. One in the dist. and I can't remember where it said the other was. And we bought the distributor offline.

And about the timing belt, he(my grandfather) said that he checked it, and didnt look like anything was wrong.

Grand dad is pretty smart, your right, the other one is next to the crank pulley. as per this how to,
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove idler pulley bracket.
  3. Remove dipstick pipe.
  4. Remove sensor.
  5. Install in reverse order.
  6. Adjust drive belt tension.

The distributor is turning? remove the cap and watch it when someone turns it over.

did you change the distributer rotor...

i have seen several burn through..  stealing all the spark...

and.. autozone and other parts stores also have a coil output tester... little length of plastic.. one end shaped like a spark plug top to put the coil wire over..  and the other with a ajustable screw with an gator clip to attach it to ground.. this can test the output ... see if it will draw enough arc...  under 10 bucks...

i also wonder if the rotor turns.. timing belts do break.
