I was wondering what would cause side to side shaking in the front wheels of my jeep when I get up to around 45 to 50 mile an hour. I can't seem to figure it out, any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

things that cause tire wobble

tires out of balance, tires steel belts separating,

play in the steering box adjustment... sometimes you can tighten the adjustment slightly.. but the wheels have to be straight when this is done. and you have to know what you are doing...

worn tie rod ends.. worn drag link... the most popular is to have the lateral link wear..

on jeeps there are 4 forward facing control arms...  coil springs on top of the axle.. steering linkage trying to turn the wheels and a lateral link to keep the axle centered..

what happens.. on the various ones that i have worked on...  the lateral link tie rod end wears,,, so it moves side to side  as you try to steer the car...   the frame end has been know to have the mounting bracket come loose where it bolts to the frame rail...

here is a link to a picture of the track bar.. what i called the lateral link.

here is an image of the steering linkage... looks like some of them have a steering damper... a shock mounted on the steering linkage to dampen side to side wobbles before they can start...   might be a good idea to see if yours has one and change that too..

this is the best picture of all .. it shows everything and its all labeled..

with the wheels on the ground.. have somebody work the steering wheel back and forth about a quarter turn..  put your hands on the steering linkage joints and see if one side of the joint is moving.. before the other side moves...
