ford transmission problems

I have a '91 ford E-150 van (76,000 miles) with an automatic OD trans. The other day, with a heavy load in it, it would not move in reverse (actually it moved a little). It acted as though the brake was on. I gave it gas and the van tried to move but something was holding it back. Also, when I limped it home, it had a difficult time shifting through the gears. It would drive in 1st gear with no problem. Most of the time it wouldn't shift into 2nd gear.

numbers on drivers side: RF-E9DP-7006-AA

I checked the fluid - good. I tried it again in reverse and found that when I give it alot of gas, it acts like the brake is on. Then have to shift out of reverse and back into reverse and give it little or no gas to make it move. It will no longer shift to 2nd. Is there anything I can try or do I need a rebuild? If a get a used one, will another trans fit if it has the same number (even though different year)? Thanks for any help.

I just was looking on line for a used tranny to replace it with, and I found one from a '88 E150 that has the same RF number on it. Is it identical to mine if it has the same RF number?
