I am looking to buy a new car and have narrowed my options to an elantra or mazda3.  The elantra has better gas mileage, better warranty and is slightly bigger, but I like the sportiness of the mazda.  Also, I am a little worried on the long term reliability of the elantra.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also looked at the elantra and mazda3, drove both and quickly eliminated the elantra.  The Mazda3 is more of a complete car and I could see myself "NOT" getting tired of getting into the same vehicle for the next 4-5 years.  The styling, handling, sportiness and performance are superior to the Hyundai.  I ended up purchasing the 5 dr. hatchback with 5spd manual transmission. I honestly would compare this car as an equivalent of the 3 series BMW.  Pretty strong claim but true.  You should also take into consideration the resale value.

Good luck with your purchase.

I was actually recently looking into these cars as well, and i ended up going with the Elantra for a lot of reasons after looking into them. At first the Mazda seems sportier but after i test drove the Elantra i really let her loose and man does she have some power! Also at the dealership I went to they had the Elantra and a slightly used Mazda and they really helped me shed some light on some things i hadnt thought about. First off, on the Mazda safety is alot worse. On the Elantra front-side, and side-curtain airbags along with ABS come standard, but on the Mazda they are all optional. You also cant get XM radio or bluetooth on the Mazda. The guys at the dealership thought the engine was better also. Actually that dealer ship was really helpful and they might be able to help tou out if you want. Its Courtesy Ford/Lincoln/Mercury in conyers Ga. they have an awesome website with great deals on it too and thats how i found out about the cars i was looking at. that website is here : www.CourtesyFordSpecials.com. Good luck shopping and i hope you find one you like.
