My 1997 Lincoln Towncar has trouble starting if the car has been off for a while(about 12+ hours). If it's been off for a while, it will start up, and then sputter and stall. If i give it some gas right away, it sounds like the engine is having trouble for a couple of seconds, but then after about 3-4 seconds of the accelerator pressed, it will stay running, and then will run without any problems. Sometimes even when i give it gas at first and it starts up, if i put it into gear too soon(about 1 minute of it running is enough to avoid this problem) it stalls. I got the car from my grandfather in august, and it was doing it then(it started right before he got rid of it, he just assumed it was the battery, and he wanted a new car anyway, so he just got rid of it). The car does this no matter what the temperate is outside, and does not seem to do it any more or less whether it is 90 degrees out or 20 degrees. The problem also does not seem to have worsened since i have had it. i have also had the battery, and alternator tested, and they were fine. i had the started tested, and the guy said it was drawing more power than this particular starter should, but other than that it was working fine. does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? the car is in fantastic condition, and has had all the tuneups and oil changes. it also has about 105,000 miles on it. any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm running out of ideas. thanks a lot

Richard

Have the fuel pressure tested next. You may just need to replace to the fuel filter if it wasn't part of the latest tuneup procedure.
