I picked up my car (2004 Dodge Neon) today from the repair shop. It had the radiator replaced; the mechanic told me it had transmission fluid in it and he had to replace it. It was overheating and the transmission light had come on when i took it in. I picked it up, drove it home (about 25 miles) and no problems but when I got out of the car I thought I smelled something a little funny, like something burning maybe. I took the car back out for a mayb 5 mile trip and when I pulled in the drive it seemed like there was smoke coming off the engine again and I smelled the smell again. The gage didn't show the car overheating but it may have been just slightly over where it usually is. I'm freaking out after such a major repair that there may be something wrong again. Is this normal? What should I do? The shop i took it to is closed tomorrow and I am supposed to use the car for a short (45 miles, maybe?) trip Sunday. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that it is cold out here- I don't know if that would have any effect on the appearance of smoke. It's 28 degrees.

if it is smoking... have somebody look at it...
they need to check the fluid levels... antifreeze in the radiator and in the overflow bottle...
engine oil, transmission fluid level last with the engine started up.. examine the hoses for leaks.. make sure that the radiator cap was on straight... take a look at the transmission cooler lines where they go into the radiator.. see if they are leaking???
if the coolant is leaking.. or something is not right... you will destroy the motor in just a few miles of driving...
best to call the shop first thing monday morn... tell them what happened... give them the option of having the car towed back... on their dime... not yours..
they will tell you what to *** but if you drive it.. and it is messed up..... they may make it hard to cover any of their mistakes...

Maggie, Have you looked on the ground under the vehicle? If there's leaks you'll see drips on the ground. The smoke or smell could be just the residue from the repair, when the radiator gets replaced there's usually a lot of spillage, sometimes even if it gets rinsed off you'll still have left over fluids and yes they will smoke for a while.
