Hi, I am grateful for any readers/replies. I have a Honda civic, runs great! The problem is the dash board is starting to flake on me. It started maybe 6 months ago where I noticed the odometer not reading. Instead of the miles, it read everything it could possibly read all at once (a bunch of 8's and trip a and b) all at the same time. This alarmed me, but eventually it would read out the miles so I didn't think to much of it. This, i need to mention happens completely at random. Some days starts and acts normal, some days it starts reading incorrectly. Some times its normal, then bad, then normal again. You get the idea. Then one day while this was happening, I turned on my headlights and my radio shut off. This wasn't a fluke because I did this a few times and it happened every time, however this behavior never happened again. When this happened I took it to Honda. Seeing that this happens completely at random, when i took it to Honda, of course it was behaving. They told me they don't know what was wrong, and the said they wiped some corrosion off the battery and sent me on my way. (Which btw cost me like $150 or something crazy). So it stopped for a little bit (maybe 2 weeks) and then started to happen again. Now its getting worse. Sometimes my gas doesn't read, my odometer is blank, my radio doesn't turn on, and (this is the reason I'm posting this) even my speedometer doesn't read. When it happens, it is only temporary, eventually everything kicks into gear. Any ideas on whats going wrong, and how much you think it would cost to fix it so I don't get raped. Its a good car, and I wanna keep it around a few more years! Thanks again for whoever took the time to read my story!

this happens a lot... dash board failures... got a magnifying lens... do you know how to pull the cluster out?? there are usually instructions on that at autozone.com... in their repair info..
take a look at the components that have solder joints that connect them... i would bet that there are a few that are bad... if you do not know how to resolder it.. ask a vcr or tv repair shop if they would have a look at it..
lately... i have been fixing a lot of cars with a soldering iron... without replacing any componants...
you can get rebuilt dash boards through most parts stores and probably honda... do write down the correct mileage if it still reads properly once in a while... there is in most states a requirement to report the change in mileage to dmv and they put a sticker on the door jam... too many car sellers rolled back the odometers to 000000 so nobody knew how many miles were really on a car...
