My 2000 grand cherokee is likely in need of a pcm. does anyone know where i could get a good used one fairly inexpensive??? i'm in owen sound, ont, canada. about 200 kms north of toronto. I keep hearing horror stories of ppl getting ripped off from scams on e-bay so i'm a little leary about that. would prefer new but dealer wants 1000$ for one. also, i have a brand new DDM [driver door module] with receipt from dealer. i was told this was the problem by another garage but turned out not to be the problem. dealer wont accept returns on electronic parts so i'm stuck with it. i paid 275.00 for it. let me know if you can help.

before you get in too deep...

buy a scan tool.....  harbor freights 98614  will not only read codes.. but it will display live data streams also... on obd 2 cars and trucks...   so you will know if something else is wrong...  there can be so many things....    a scan tool is the only way to properly diagnose is..

paste this link into a new window...

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=98614        they are $130.USD   and worth it... you can read live data... look at the sensor voltages.. the crank and cam signals and if they are in sync.... clear codes, look at lazy oxygen sensors... throttle position sensors...  and tons of other stuff...

and which motor do you have..????   the 4.0 or 4.7....    you might also check various dealers...   many have different pricing on the parts...

autozone does have a free online repair manual on their web site... has tons of info...

post some problems... codes... volt readings from a scan tool...    measured...   what problems it;s having...

crank and cam sensors do go out...      coils go bad... and leak high voltage to grounds through the sides,   sometimes they don't put out enough voltage to properly fire the motor....

just throwing parts at it is the dealer job..   you have lots of money.. lets start with the high dollar parts...  its got to be one of them...

oh... yea.... dirty battery terminals are a huge problem on these... but please scan for codes first..  some do not reset for hundreds of miles...

actually, yes it was the dealer who said about the pcm and they cant even garauntee that its the problem. and if i buy it, i own it. told them but thats why i brought it to you, for the expert solution. i can sit at home alot cheaper and keep guessing for alot cheaper. also, it was another garage that did a diag with a scantool that said it was the door switch but it still did it. vehicle is still running [this is a second thread continued from my earlier one entitled 2000 g.c. sentry key lite issues.] so i'm going to keep driving it until something breaks for sure then they have to be able to find the problem but thank you for the info, i'm keeping that also. it will come in handy.
