The Nissan Sentra is used when staying in Mexico. My wife had some repairs done before I could make it back from the United States that included an alternator and battery. The alternator was installed incorrectly and the shop would not step up. I brought another new one and went to great means to prep everything that the manufacturer recommended to be cleaned, inspected, and checked to remove any possible problems. The daily use of the vehicle has been great for the last two weeks until today. Now the battery light on the dash stays on when the ignition switch is turned off. I called the manufacturer's tech support of the alternator and was told that it's probably an electrical draw caused by a wiring problem on the Nissan. I've had a fair amount of experience of bad alternator units off the shelf over the years and suspect something is amiss what tech support isn't telling me.

hmm... the wiring diagram shows a diode in the circuit for the dash light...
copy and paste this link... for the wiring diagram

i have not had the luck to run across one of these diodes so i don't know where it might be on the car... but with the diagram... you will be able to trace it back...

So, can it be pretty safe to say that the alternator is good? and the quick fix not to run the battery down is to unplug the battery light in the dash until the diode in question is located and repaired?

Update on just disconecting battery light-did not fix the problem. The glowing charge light indicates a bad diode in the alternator. Thus, running the car with no charge to the battery will peel all the juice out of it and the engine just quits.

I would try the regulator first. Does the light go off when you disconnect the VR?

My 1999 Nissan maxima also has the same problem. The battery light stays on after the ignition is turned off and the key is out. This morning the battery was dead so I got a new battery and the same problem exists. The alternator was checked and it's fine. When the car is start all dash lights disappear. What could be the problem?
