I believe what you're saying is it sucks up gas big time. Used a 2 lb coffee can of gas in a minute? Hmmm . . . That's about half a gallon so looks like you do have a gas guzzler there and you'll gt about 5 miles to the gallon, if you're lucky. It's an older vehicle made when gas prices weren't that high and gas consumption not much of an issue. If the carb mixture is set as lean as it will go and still run good that's about all you can do other than advance the timing a couple degrees. They make different size gas "jets" that screw in, but you have to take the top off the carb to get to them. Should be a number stamped in them so you can drop down to a smaller size jet with a smaller hole. Careful and don't run it to lean because you could burn a valve. If you can find a *good* carburetor man he can rebuild it for you. If it has a four barrel carb you could go to a two barrel but you'd need a four barrel to two barrel adaptor or go to a two barrel intake manifold. I Googled loking for an adapter but all I can find is two barrel intake with four barrel adaptor. http://store.wpsracing.com/cpprcaad.html Using that much gas, I'm suprised it isn't smoking like a diesel with bad injectors.
