My check engine light came on right about the time I rolled 95,000 miles on my 2003 Impala with the 3.8L V6. Does anyone know if this is a default setting to get me in for a 100,000 mile service? I got a similar notice on my RAV4 for its first oil change so now I'm suspicious. Any input is appreciated.

No It's not a "default setting" The car makers stopped doing that years ago. There's a maintenance light that will come on when the oil needs changing and rightfully so, but if the light says "Service Engine Soon" have it checked out.
