I am in dire need of an answer to my transmission problem.  My 1991 Cadillac Eldorado which I just had out driving around town last night, all of a sudden will not go into any gear. When you start the car and unlock the center shifter it just moves between P and 1 but nothing happens. I am at my vacation home in Florida and have to fly out Tuesday Sept 2nd. As tomorrow is a holiday so nothing is open, I have a huge problem! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Did you check your fluid level? Remember you have to have the car running to check the trans fluid level.And also check to see how dirty the fluid is,or if it has a burnt smell to it.

if it is not shifting at all it might be the the linkage if it is an automatic then crawl under the drivers side door and do not crank the truck just turn the key so it will move the shifter and get someone to move the shifter back and fourth and if it is slipping the bolt can be loose and that just might be it my 1992 dodge 1500 did that too

Hi there: No, the fluid is up and no burnt smell. It was running and shifting just fine last night Thanks for your help!

I think it might be the linkage also (at least I hope it is that simple!) my other problem is that I can't work on the car where it is and it won't move, I live in a condo complex and they freak out if you start working on your car in your parking space  I think I am stuck till Tuesday morning as tomorrow is labour day and I won't find anyone open. I have to fly out Tuesday night so i hope I can get this fixed in time Thanks so much for your help
