I upgraded tires on my 2002 silverado (Z71) from 265/75r to 285/75r16.Im told that I should change the gear ratios to match these tires or can I change the program to match the tires ??? any suggestions???

I am not sure but I would recommend Wild Country Tires for any truck.

You shouldn't have to change gear ratios to accommodate those tires.

They will throw your speedo readings off slightly. Just over 2 miles per hour at 60 mph.

I would also recommend wild country tires for trucks. I love mine. got them from Tiresbyweb.com

One major reason for changing gear ratio is to compensate for larger tires. Large tires make the axle turn slower per revolution, reducing effective torque to the ground. To compensate for larger wheels and tires, divide the new tire's circumference (2 x 3.14 x the tire's radius) by the old tire's circumference. Multiply your old gear ratio by that number to arrive at your new ratio.

hi if the tyres fit ok without touching the chassis you should be ok. the bigger size will give your wheels less turns to cover a certain area because you will have bigger overall diameter.this should not affect your gearing that much. the rule is a 1.5% change of tyre size higher or lower,so i think this upgrade will be Ok.  erik at tyres
