I have a 1992 honda accord that the indicator for the transmission is stuck in D4. I have disconnected the negative side of the battery then reconnected to find that it solves the problem for a while. Sometimes after a couple of starts in resumes the same problem as prior. Also when this occurs and is in D4( I mean actual when the transmission is in D4) the car feels like it is not starting off in 1st gear and it fells like its dragging. Can someone help me out with this?

I would love to know the answer to this, as my 1992 Accord seems to be doing the exact same thing. It was inactive and not driven for about 2 months, and the battery died. After I replaced the battery, I noticed almost immediately that the light indicator around D4 was always lit, regardless if it was in park, or reverse, or whatever. It also is very, very slow to accelerate from a stop in D4, almost as if it is trying to accelerate from 2nd gear. If I accelerate from the gear marked "2", however, it accelerates normally, and I can switch over to D4 once the car is past 10 mph or so, and it drives fine.
I also noticed that after I disconnected the battery, and reconnected it worked fine the next time it started, but then after the car was turned off, it resumed with the same problem... Very strange and it makes me wonder if its related to the electrical system, rather than the transmission, as the windows don't roll down, the cigarette lighter doesn't work, as well as the other electrical items (although, those began not working many, many years prior)
